Take a look at these tips and helpful hints for you and your swimmer(s), as you prepare for the first swim meet of the season:
Arrive at the pool before the time your coach sets for your group to get in and warm up.
Check in at the check in table right when you arrive. Lines could be long, but make sure you sign in.
Check in with your coach to let him/her know you are at the meet. They should be under our team EZ up on the pool deck.
Find the team area or a place to sit. At Morgan Hill Aquatics, we typically try to sit in the water park area, near the warm up pool.
Get in with your group to warm up. Make sure to get into the pool feet first!
During the meet make sure to check in with your coach before and after your races. Let him/her know what heat and lane you are in. He/she will go over race strategies and other things for your race, as well as going over splits and how your swims looked after the races.
Make sure to bring extra caps and goggles because you never know if you are going to need an extra.
Remember … it is your swimmer’s responsibility to be ready for their heat. Be sure they are paying attention to what heat the meet is on, so they do not miss their event. There is no clerk of the course lining up swimmers. Each swimmer must know where to be and when. Your swimmer can check with the timer in their lane to be sure they are in the correct place.
Stay hydrated all day. These meets are long, so make sure to bring lots of water as well as snacks.
Bring extra towels. It is amazing how many towels you go through.
Swim fast, and have fun!!!
